A snake’s skeleton—40 meters (131 feet) long, 2.5 meters (98 1/2 inches) wide, and 1.4 meters (55 inches) high—cuts through a bridge (the Müblenbrücke) in Hann Münden. It goes up and down, and winds its way in and out of the water. As a Chinese saying goes, “Where there are high mountains and big lakes, dragons and snakes emerge.” This project is directly inspired by the landscape of Hann Münden. Although the hills there are not high, they are peaceful and have a spiritual aura; although the lake is not big, it is the point at which three rivers converge. The Chinese would describe the position of the small town of Hann Münden as having excellent feng shui. Above all, the small island that the Müblenbrücke crosses over is the place that “gathers the most energy”; it is surrounded by different layers of energy. The Müblenbrücke is also a rather special bridge, with a curved form and a roof covered with red tiles. It looks like the “umbilical cord” of this town with red tile roofs. This is why I chose this location, and using that as a starting point, I created this snake skeleton. —HYP
